(AP) — A jury has delivered a $135 million verdict in a molestation case involving a middle school teacher, determining that negligence by a Southern California school district allowed the abuse of two students during the 1990s. Jurors in Riverside County Superior Court decided Tuesday that the Moreno Valley Unified School District is 90% responsible for the damages, while former teacher Thomas Lee West is 10% responsible, according to plaintiffs’ lawyers. The ruling means the district will pay $121.5 million in damages.District officials didn’t immediately respond to an email Wednesday seeking comment on the verdict. One person was killed by a falling tree, another drowned in a swollen river and two others were injured after the hurricane made landfall. GRIFFITH, Ind. — A man abandoned a dog in Northwest Indiana last week after asking a no-kill shelter to euthanize the pet.A dog was recently found abandoned in Griffith and police are asking the public's help to identify the suspect.On Oct. 4, Griffith police said a man arrived to the animal control and shelter, located in the 100 block of North Wood Street. The man asked for the dog to be euthanized because the animal is "aggressive" but the shelter refused — citing that they are a no-kill shelter, according to a detective."We are unable to take people's pets just because they don't want them any longer. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin police are asking for the public's help identifying the suspects involved in a robbery that happened in east Austin last month. According to the Austin Police Department, it happened at a business on Loyola Lane shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. APD said the suspects were refused service by a store employee "due to the suspects having criminal trespass notices." APD said one of the suspects took an item and left the store, and an employee was assaulted while trying to retrieve the stolen item. Suspect 1 is described as a black man, around 25-35 years old, and 5'11" in height. He was wearing red pajamas with Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters on them and carried a black shirt. As federal funding from the American Rescue Plan and other emergency sources runs dry, the St. Paul School District is bracing for a difficult budget climate. The school district will host three listening sessions to better understand family priorities and provide background on the budgeting process.Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funding is expected to end in September 2024.The St. Paul School Board recently approved a maximum property tax levy increase of 1.73% for 2024.
